Overview – Jesus’ Death & Resurrection
Jesus died on 14 Nisan A.D. 33 or 1 April A.D. 33 while hanging on a cross. A friend had betrayed Him to the ruling religious leaders of the day and His disciples had forsaken Him. Jewish and Roman officials had condemned Him and as a result the Roman soldiers beat Him. He carried His own instrument of death, a wood cross, to the top of a hill and there His hands and feet were nailed to that piece of wood. The Roman soldiers then gambled for His clothes and thus divided up His clothes.
At noon darkness over the land and at 3:00 p.m. Jesus died (Luke 23:44). Eventually a Roman soldier stabbed Him in the side. The solider discovered that He was dead. But three days later He returned to life and thirty days later He ascended back up to heaven. The major prophecies surrounding His death were predicted in the Old Testament.
